Whole Animal Buying Guide

June 3rd, 2009 · No Comments

Support your local farmer and meat locker, buy an animal directly from the producer.

If buying direct is new, you may have questions:

  • How much meat comes from one animal?
  • How much of each cut will I get?
  • What do labels like ‘naturally raised’ mean?
  • Arion Thiboumery, through the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University, has made a guide to help you.

You can purchase a print copy or download a free pdf copy on the ISU extension publication site.

If you are interested in purchasing a whole animal from an Iowa Farmers Union farmer, please contact Amber.
