Initial Workshop to be Held in Ankeny, Iowa, at FFA Enrichment Center at Des Moines Area Community College

WASHINGTON, March 10, 2010 - The Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today an updated schedule and panelists for the first joint public workshop, which will be held on March 12, 2010, in Ankeny, Iowa, to explore competition and regulatory issues in the agriculture industry. Townhall meeting in Ankeny, IA one day prior to the March 12 federal anti-trust workshop will push DOJ, USDA, and Congress to bust up big ag and put people first

A coalition of local, state, and national community, consumer, farmer, and labor organizations will hold a townhall meeting, “Unleash Food Democracy: Taking on Corporate Power in our Food System”, Thursday, March 11, at 7pm at the Best Western Hotel in Ankeny, Iowa, as a response to the joint U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) anti-trust workshop in Ankeny on Friday, March 12.

Who: Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (Iowa CCI), Food Democracy Now!, National Family Farms Coalition, Food and Water Watch, and allied organizations

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Iowa farmers with small to midsize operations may apply for grants to demonstrate energy efficiency and conservation measures or how they are using renewable energy from their farm to meet energy needs. This opportunity is from the Farm Energy Working Group of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, facilitated by the UNI Center for Energy & Environmental Education (CEEE) and the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT). Iowans participate in College Conference on Cooperatives

MINNEAPOLIS – Nearly 100 students from nine states came together recently to learn about cooperatives from experts across the country. The students were participants in the College Conference on Cooperatives, sponsored by the CHS Foundation and hosted by the National Farmers Union (NFU) Foundation.

The February 20-22 event included participants from Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois and Colorado. (more…)
