Ames, Iowa – The Iowa Farmers Union proudly endorses Iowa Governor Chet Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge in their re-election bid this November 2nd. Governor Culver has been a friend to family farmers and rural communities during his first term. Culver recognizes the benefits of locally grown food and the huge economic opportunity for Iowans who produce it. He has shown leadership on environmental issues that impact the quality of life in rural Iowa including clean air and clean water measures. Additionally, his I-JOBS Infrastructure Initiative has been a lifeline to rural communities across the state, helping with the massive 2008 flood recovery, as well as rebuilding collapsing infrastructure in small rural towns–all without raising Iowan’s taxes. Governor Culver supports ethanol production as well as other renewable sources of energy. During his first four years, renewable energy production in Iowa has grown from 5% to 20%, improving the environment and keeping dollars in local communities. Iowa Farmers Union feels that Chet Culver will continue to move Iowa forward.
